Five in a row is popular all around the world and has many names, including Gomoku, 五目並べ, 五子棋, 오목 and Luffarschack. Its original name Gomoku, or 五目並べ, is from the Japanese language. The game is also popular in China where it's called wu zi qi, or 五子棋. In Korea it's called Omok, or 오목. They are all the same game with the same simple rule; to get five in a row.
